Droughts

A drought is an unusually long time where there is not enough water to meet the needs of people, animals and plants.

In Australia, droughts can last for many years and can affect people who live inland, on farms, in the cities and in the coastal areas.

Droughts can exist even when there is some rain falling.

Droughts can cause food crops to fail and for farm animals to die. During droughts, other disasters can also occur, like bushfires, heatwaves and dust-storms.
